CenteringParenting

Centering Parenting overview

CenteringParenting is a multifaceted model of group care that integrates the three major components of care: health assessment, education, and support, into a unified program within a group setting. Six or seven mother/baby dyads meet together learning care skills, participating in a facilitated discussion, and developing a support network with other group members. Each Parenting group meets for a 8-10 sessions at least through the baby’s first birthday. The practitioner, within the group space, completes standard physical health assessments for women and babies. This constitutes the well-baby care utilizing the recommendations of Bright Futures and also provides an on-going system of care for the new mother. Care providers must be credentialed in both pediatrics and women’s health or team together to provide this comprehensive care package.CenteringParenting Logo

When CenteringParenting care is used in conjunction with CenteringPregnancy, groups provide a continuing community for families for a total of 12-24 months during this challenging time of transitions and provide an opportunity for competence and confidence building.
