Why a Turtle?

The turtle has been respected for its qualities of nurturance, protection, patience, perseverance, tenacity, self-reliance, groundedness, and wisdom. The turtle teaches us that we blossom in our own time and that we must go within to find the answers that we seek.

Mother turtle never tells us what to do. She empowers us to discover the path of right action for ourselves, by teaching us to go within and listen to the wise counsel of our hearts.

Mother turtle is a shaman of birth. She nurtures, protects, and guides a woman back to herself as she moves through her birth process. She walks her walk in the Tao and she helps each woman to walk her own walk in the Tao. She trusts that each woman can find her own way. She is a companion on the journey.

Because the turtle is an animal of both water and land, it teaches us to become one with all aspects of our environment. The turtle is the oldest symbol for the earth and symbolizes grounding and sureness of action.
