View Dates Centering Facilitation Workshop

The magic of Centering stems from skillful and savvy group facilitation. This engaging new virtual workshop will prepare you to launch your first in-person or virtual group and gain confidence in your facilitative leadership through a variety of skill-building and interactive learning activities.

Each cohort of learners will meet virtually over Zoom for multiple sessions to practice facilitation and group management skills using proven Centering facilitation techniques such as mindful listening, Acknowledge, Refer, Return (ARR) and strategic questioning. Participants will also leave ready to plan and lead a Centering group. Important discussions about implicit bias, inclusion and health equity are woven throughout the workshop. Additionally, participants will further their learnings and make connections to the CHI community through independent learning modules.

Together we will walk through a sample Centering visit and explore the basic principles underlying the group approach to CenteringPregnancy, CenteringParenting and CenteringHealthcare group care:

• Essential Elements that define Centering
• Three components of group visits: Health Assessment, Interactive Learning and Community Building
• Facilitative Leadership

Audience

The Centering Facilitation Workshop is a requirement for everyone who plans to facilitate Centering groups within a licensed Centering site. Participants who attend all of the virtual sessions and complete the independent learning module will be prepared to lead both in-person and virtual Centering groups and will have taken their first step to becoming a Certified Centering Facilitator (CCF). Attendees may include healthcare providers, nurses, medical assistants, health educators, behavioral health professionals, patient advocates, health profession students and residents and other new facilitators.

The virtual workshop will be a high-touch, interactive learning experience and, to fully engage, it is a requirement that all participants come into the workshop from their own device with audio and video capability.
